Catalogue matching

Catalogue entries show Public collection items and Store listings only when matching public records exist. This direction uses the identical pattern number alone; maker, colour, size and date are irrelevant. Surrounding whitespace is ignored; letter case and punctuation are significant.

Collection results contain PUBLIC items from enabled public collections and active accounts. Draft, retired, deleted and shared or private items never appear, even for their owner or an administrator. Store results contain only published or reserved, unarchived listings with an active seller, positive available quantity and a verified publication snapshot. Store TEST access rules still apply.

Item and listing detail pages first find all active catalogue pages recording the same pattern and at least one of the recorded colour IDs. Multiple item colours use any shared ID, not a requirement that every colour occurs. Item-wide colours and nonempty, active size-specific sets count as recorded occurrences. A size marked ABSENT contributes only through the item-wide set; an explicitly empty set adds no colours. UNKNOWN with no stored colours never invents inheritance. Measurements do not constrain these navigational matches.

Colour aliases are names for the same authoritative ID. Distinct IDs are never merged because their names or generic colours look similar. A completed administrative merge already uses the surviving ID. Missing colours, free text and ambiguous identities cannot establish an exact colour match. New Store publications freeze the colour ID with their research; older publications without a frozen colour ID use broader matches until republished with an authoritative ID.

If no pattern-and-colour matches exist anywhere, Broader pattern-only matches show potential references with colour unconfirmed. Broader results never mix with exact results. No pattern match gives an empty state. Results are paginated at 100 logical pages. Historical direct links remain recorded for audit/export compatibility and never control these results.

References are grouped by Maker, Year and ordered by catalogue year/identity, then the recorded ORDER and logical page identity. Each logical page has its own link, including duplicate printed numbers. Link labels use the printed PAGE_NUMBER (including zero), then PAGE_LABEL, then TITLE, then “Unnumbered page”. Printed numbers never replace ORDER. The display name “Whitefriars / James Powell & Sons” is shortened to “Whitefriars”.
