Description
Whitefriars Glass vase, pattern 8970, in Sapphire Blue, standing approximately 10 inches tall.

This design is first shown in the 1937 Whitefriars Glass catalogue and is a good early example of the clean, restrained style associated with Whitefriars before the later mid-century ranges. The colour is the attractive Sapphire Blue, with the deeper tone showing strongest in the base.

Whitefriars Glass was the trading name of James Powell & Sons of London, one of the most important English glasshouses of the late 19th and 20th centuries. Their work is well regarded for its quality, colour and distinctive British design history.

This vase comes from a private collection, with more pieces to follow.

Close-up photos with arrows show the minor imperfections and should be taken as part of the description and condition report. I would note that these really are minor and the vase displays well.

A well-proportioned cabinet piece and a desirable catalogue pattern for collectors of early Whitefriars.

Please study all photographs carefully for condition. The photo showing two vases has an arrow to identify which vase is being offered in this listing.

I also have the matching Whitefriars 8971 vase in Sapphire Blue listed separately, and I would consider a sensible offer for the pair.
